The Barn Project - Page 7 Its mid July and the wheelhouse and study in the background are taking shape. With all the rain the country has been having, this has slowed the project down a little. The wheelhouse now has 5 windows and an opening for the patio doors. |

Pictured above right is a close up picture of a 'squint' This is a purposely made special brick to detail the corners. All corners have an internal angle of 144 degrees as the the room (kitchen) is actual half of a decagon, a ten sided shape. 110 were ordered, 55 of each hand. The bricks are laid left and right handed to create the required bond. Note the gritty mortar. To create an old looking mortar, we are using lime and course sand to replicate the mortar of the original building. |

To the right is the study and in the background a en-suite and utility room. If you look closely at the brickwork, the builder has left 4 vertical arrow slits, again, to replicate the old section of the building. This part of the original barn was an old store building a seperate from the barn. Having alterted the planing application we can now join the study through a conservatory back into the main barn.
