The Barn Project - Page 9

Jan 08 and now Christmas is over, we are continuing on the single storey parts of the conversion.

The main roof, as pictured, is now roofed and after some deliberation, we decided to use a clay pantile from Sandtoft called the 'Arcardia'. A lot of the original handmade pantiles were frost ridden and unable to use these to any great effect. Rather than using a bright orange 'hello i am a new tile' look, the arcardia weathers very well together with the colours and size that are similar to that of the old handmades we could not use.

The picture below shows the current state of the conversion.

The close up picture shows the darken tiles and velux windows in place.

As there are no windows on the North elevation of the barn, velux have been put in the room to create light and a feeling of space.

At this point we would like to thank both Ian Young our roofer for the work he has put in and Burton Roofing for suppling the all the roofing products from felt to tiles to nails to windows.

The picture of the right show a small section of roof inside the main bedroom. The rafters are pine where insulation will be placed between and then plasterboarded over.

The purlins and all trusses are air dried oak and will remain exposed. Common rafters alos in oak will be exposed prior to plastering. All bedrooms will have exposed ceilings and all bathrooms and en-suites will have a raised flat ceiling.

We shall endevour to update this website more regularly and should you know of anyone that requires good contacts for the trades we have used, please do not hesiate to call us on 01937 580580. Thanks
