		Air Dried Oak Beams We now supply air dried oak beams This is when a freshly sawn tree, know as green oak, is cut to size and stored for a period of time to allow the timber to dry. Typically, our stocks are about 5 years air dried. Oak dries at approximately 25mm (1") per year. So a 175mm (7") beam would ideally take 3 1/2 years (to the centre) to obtain a state where any further shrinkage or movement is significantly reduced. Our current stock varies in length upt to 6.5m(21' 4") and have dimensions ranging from 150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm square (6", 8", 10" and 12") As this timber is square and straight, we have the option of producing a clean contemporary looking beams with details or by undergoing certain procedures, can reproduce a more adzed and aged appearance.
